The evening began with a presentation from Andrew and Chris of Photo Central. They reviewed some of their new products and also discussed some of their various printing options. And thank you Andrew (owner of Photo Central) for allowing us to use your gallery space to hold this event.
A good introduction to a new Trade Member and sponsor of PPOC-MB.

It was a little touch and go at the beginning of Joel’s presentation…it looked like no was going to show up. Okay, now everyone knows that couldn’t be true :)

Fortunately for Joel and the rest of us, many members and non-members as well came out to enjoy and learn from Joel’s presentation. We had 22 members, 16 non-members plus 11 students in attendance. Joel shared on some posing techniques as well as some pointers in communicating with his family groups whether in studio or on location. Coffee break saw a great buzz as people interacted with one another sharing stories while others met for the first time and some finally put a face to a name that they have known for a while. As well many took the time to peruse the gallery room which houses a collection of our own Mike Grandmaison. Thank you Joel for taking the time to share.

This last weekend was Shawn and Tiffany’s wedding and I think everybody had a great time. Married at Gateway South Church and pictures at the Hydro Building and the St. Norbert Ruins… which was the other exciting thing about this wedding. The Ruins have been undergoing renovations for the past 4 years and have been off limits to shooting with a bright orange fence, and this was the first wedding since they took it down and wow – was it ever great to be back! I love how the light floods into the old monastery and all the angles available to pose groups and the bride and groom. Now having been back there I remember how much I miss shooting this location! Kristy from the Labworks presented me with the “2012 Best Wedding Award” for an image created this year that the judges liked and which was one of my favourites.
Don’s Photo presented me with the “2012 Most Creative Award” that night as well.



Congratulations to Alex Morrison on being awarded Photographer of the Year, and to Rodney Braun, who worked with me for many years doing newborn and maternity photos at the studio, won Best Commercial Award. Congratulations to you both!!

I first met Andrew when I was first starting out in photography and after attending the first of many of his seminars, returned home inspired to push the envelope toward better customer service, better work, and growing my business for the future. Not only is he one of the best in the industry, but also one of the most interesting and entertaining speakers I’ve ever heard – no sleeping in his class!

To all my photographer colleagues, whether you’ve been in the business for 20 years or 20 minutes, in my opinion this is a must attend event if you want to thrive in the photography industry. Call me if you have any questions and I’d be happy to help.

The food was great, the room looked amazing and the service was awesome. I loved shooting here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding reception venue in Kenora.

The party itself was so awesome, and I knew it would be because guests always feed off the energy of the wedding couple and Laurie and Brendan were so much fun and full of smiles and energy. The dance floor was hopping all night was BounceNGoodTimes Music and Laurie was out leading the way :)

Being in the middle of winter we really wondered where to take pictures, and while there are lots of awesome places in Kenora, New Years Eve means not a lot were available, but then my cousin Melissa Jean suggested the Discovery Centre in Kenora, we booked it and were surprised at what an amazing venue it was for a photoshoot, with big windows and tons of sunlight, even on snowy winter days. So these pictures were taken there… and as you can tell, gave us lots of variety and interesting angles to shoot.

One of the things that I LOVED most about this wedding was Laurie’s amazing smile which lit of the room and made everyone around her smile too. I loved photographing her and Brendan and am so glad I got to be part of their wedding plans and capture the special memories of their wedding day.

We had an awesome time jumping from location to location and one of my favourite pictures was taken at the BEA Lounge while we were taking a break from shooting for a shooter… and this is what we came up with – love it! And love the group shot of everyone hanging out – a perfect memory of everybody involved. As for the jerseys, it was perfect because it was the day of the Winnipeg Jet’s first game back in Winnipeg. Congrats Mitch and Holly, and welcome back to Winnipeg!
