Thanks for taking the time to checkout the latest happenings at Joel Ross!

Hi, I'm Joel Ross. Thank you for taking the time to checkout what I've been up to lately. Take some inspiration and leave some thoughts!

Since beginning my career in 1996, I've been awarded Photographer of the Year, have spoken at various photography conventions around the world, and have enjoyed photographing almost 1000 weddings, offering you the assurance that my experience matches my enthusiasm.  But more than anything I want you to look back on your experience with me and LOVE IT!

Besides loving my craft, I am in love with my wife Eve and our two precious daughters, one who looks just like Eve, and the other who looks just like me!  I love God, my scooter, red wine, espresso, and spending time with family.  I think it's because of my passions and values that I strive to capture the uniqueness of each love story in the unique way that I do, a sensitivity to my art surpassed only with my passion for an extraordinary client experience.

A Note of Thanks :)

I just received this awesome note of thanks from Laurie, my wonderful bride from the New Years Eve wedding in Kenora. This note means the world to me as I put my heart into my craft and want everyone to have the most magical experience on their wedding day, and thankfully for Laurie, I think it was everything she’d wanted :)

“Joel Ross you are amazing. You had your work cut out for you as I am the least photogenic person on the planet I swear. Lol. The pictures at the discovery center were amazing. The sparkler pictures were magical and the reception pictures were better than I ever imagined they could be. You are an incredible person to deal with, just a joy to be around. You captured my wedding day like no other could of. Even Brendan got a little choked up after viewing the photos. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU !!!! “

Jacobs Family Pictures!

The Jacobs family came in all the way from South Africa to visit family here in Winnipeg, and came by my studio for their family portrait and it turned out to be one of my favourites and I’m so glad they came in! Notice the nice tan on their faces… yup, just came back from Mexico too. Thanks for a great shoot, and I hope you love the pix!!

Wedding Photography Best Western Lakeside Inn and Conference Centre Kenora Ontario

Laurie and Brendan’s wedding reception at Lakeside Inn and Conference Centre in Kenora was such a blast. The food was great, the room looked amazing and the service was awesome. I loved shooting here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding reception venue in Kenora.

The party itself was so awesome, and I knew it would be because guests always feed off the energy of the wedding couple and Laurie and Brendan were so much fun and full of smiles and energy. The dance floor was hopping all night was BounceNGoodTimes Music and Laurie was out leading the way :)

Here are a few pictures just to give you an idea of what it looks like. Enjoy!

Laurie and Brendan’s Wedding Photography Kenora Ontario (Wedding photographs Discovery Centre in Kenora)

New Years Eve weddings are the best, with everyone in the mood to go out and have a great time, and this wedding was exactly that… tons and tons of smiles and laughter and everyone in the mood to celebrate Laurie and Brendan’s wedding day.

Being in the middle of winter we really wondered where to take pictures, and while there are lots of awesome places in Kenora, New Years Eve means not a lot were available, but then my cousin Melissa Jean suggested the Discovery Centre in Kenora, we booked it and were surprised at what an amazing venue it was for a photoshoot, with big windows and tons of sunlight, even on snowy winter days. So these pictures were taken there… and as you can tell, gave us lots of variety and interesting angles to shoot.

One of the things that I LOVED most about this wedding was Laurie’s amazing smile which lit of the room and made everyone around her smile too. I loved photographing her and Brendan and am so glad I got to be part of their wedding plans and capture the special memories of their wedding day.

I’ll post a few more picture from the reception in the next post so stay tuned!

Tina and Carmelo Engaged (Pictures at Leo Mol Winnipeg)

Yesterday turned out to be an awesome day for Tina and Carmelo’s engagement pix… half the sky was snowing while the sun was shining on the other half, giving us a gorgeous effect – perfect for an awesome couple :) )
Funny how often shooting in the “worst” weather turns out to deliver the best images in the end.

Holly and Mitch Married! BEA Lounge Winnipeg

Ok, so sometimes I can be a slacker… like this time and the next few posts of shoots I’d done a while ago but just never got around to posting… so here’s to me and trying to catch up from the busy fall season with Holly and Mitch’s wedding this fall. We had an awesome time jumping from location to location and one of my favourite pictures was taken at the BEA Lounge while we were taking a break from shooting for a shooter… and this is what we came up with – love it! And love the group shot of everyone hanging out – a perfect memory of everybody involved. As for the jerseys, it was perfect because it was the day of the Winnipeg Jet’s first game back in Winnipeg. Congrats Mitch and Holly, and welcome back to Winnipeg!

Our Awesome Accountant – Jean Guy Talbot and Associates Winnipeg

Looking for a great accountant?
http://www.talbotcga.ca

When we first started out in business back in 1996 we were introduced to an accountant named Jean Guy Talbot that we were told specialized in small business and would work with us to make smart decisions and grow our business. 15 years later we are still with him, (although he’s added a few amazing associates since), and have always considered them a vital part of our team and reason for our success. I’ve always said that for every dollar I pay him, he makes or saves me ten. So if you’re looking for an awesome accounting team, check out Jean Guy and team – just might be one of your best investments ever.

Tom + Leilani’s Wedding 11.11.11 {Winter Wedding Photography}

Loved this wedding because not only was it on 11.11.11, it was so much fun and had the perfect amount of energy and everybody seemed to have an amazing time. The pix were awesome and the decor and atmosphere at Terrace 55 made the night unforgettable. Danny Kramerkept the dance floor full, Barb from Dessert Sinsations made an incredible dessert buffet (which was completely scarfed down!) and Events by Emma set the stage for the most awesome party decor I’ve seen arranged at the Terrace!

Winter weddings are my favourite because I get to shoot with low light and create more moody and dramatic images using more light control than is normally available at most summer weddings. Here are a few of my many many faves from the day.

Congrats Tom and Leilani!

The Proposal
It came as no surprise when Derek and Alia really hit if off after meeting through mutual friends. When Derek knew it was time to propose, he planned something big. Always telling Alia he would never propose on Valentine’s Day, he decided to throw her off his scent. So the week before Valentine’s, he showered her with gifts and flowers, getting bigger and more elaborate every day. The day before, he delivered 100 long-stemmed red roses to Alia at her office—she could barely carry them to her car. On Valentine’s morning, he bent down on one knee and proposed marriage.

The Wedding
With just 6 months to plan their wedding, the couple knew they needed a lot of help to pull off the perfect day. Despite Alia’s career in fashion (she’s the daughter of fashion mogul Peter Nygard) and her experience planning high-stress fashion shows and directing photo shoots, she quickly realized that nothing could prepare her for planning a glam wedding with so little time. So once a week until the wedding, the couple met with Events by Emma to make sure their day was like they dreamed. The day started with an intimate first look session between the bride and groom. She sat in her father’s private plane, and he waited for her to come down the stairs. When she walked down the stairs, he said to her, “This is a special, special day.” As she wiped his tears away, they knew their perfect day had truly began.

After a private photo session at Bliss Bridal Boutique, the couple was ready to walk down the aisle at The Gates on Roblin. The ceremony took place outdoors, and Events by Emma created a very glamorous look. Chandeliers hung all down the aisle with purple mokara orchids wired to them. Wanting a very modern look, the couple had a custom acrylic canopy created for the ceremony, covered in hundreds of stems of purple and green orchids, freesia, and calla lilies. The reception was just as elaborate. Since the bride grew up in the Bahamas, 15 cultural dancers started off the reception by leading the bridal party in to dancing and island-style drumming. Guests enjoyed a martinis, oysters, and mac-tinis from food stations outside, then a family-style dinner to promote conversation and an intimate atmosphere despite the large guest list. At midnight, snacks of yam fries and beef sliders were handed out. Glamorous décor created the modern style the couple wanted, like tall candelabras filled with bouquets of white ostrich feathers, lengths of silky white fabric draping the entire ballroom, a mixture of low square floral arrangements, and a dramatic floral centrepiece setting apart the head table. The Danny Kramer Event Band performed “At Last” for their first dance as a married couple, timed perfectly with a confetti canon that showered the couple and the dance floor with metallic purple confetti at the perfect moment. And as a finale to their perfect night, a beautiful fireworks display awed the group.

The Fashion
While traveling to Paris, London, and New York for work throughout their engagement, Alia started the search for her dream dress, but felt that everything looked the same when she was looking for something truly unique. So when she popped into Bliss Bridal Boutique in Winnipeg, the Fuji gown by Pronovias jumped out at her. The strapless A-line dress with beadwork scattered throughout the bodice and ostrich feathers placed through the full length of the skirt and train was the perfect combination of glamour without being pouffy. The men wore custom-designed tuxedos from Harry Rosen Polo Park, and though the bride planned to design the bridesmaids’ dresses herself, they found beautifully understated purple gowns from 7th Avenue Bridal.

“With only 6 months to plan our wedding, we did not have a lot of time. Events by Emma’s team was so organized and guided us through everything. Emma really understood our vision and listened to all our requests. She kept saying that she wanted the wedding to be a reflection of Derek and myself, and it was!” —Alia

Bal and Kulvir’s Slideshow {East Indian Wedding Photography Winnipeg}

This was a wedding I’ve been looking forward to ever since I had the privilege of photographing their engagement pictures in Surrey and Vancouver last summer. They were so much fun and their pictures are some of my favorite ever (even featured in Weddings In BC!).

There’s more to come… but enjoy the show!!
